What is extradition bill?
Hundred and thousand of Hong kongers are out of street protesting against unpopular extradition bill.
In which they feel that it's a Chinese government latest attempt to exert control over Hong Kong.
So this fight started with a murder.
On 8 February 2018 young couple 'chan thungai and piun ho wing' went from Hong Kong to Taiwan on vacation. They stayed in hotel for 9 days. But on 17 February 2018 only one return to Hong Kong. After one month 'chan' confess murdering her girlfriend . And from here whole problem started because Hong Kong authority could not charge him for murder because he did it in Taiwan and couldn't send to Taiwan because Hong Kong and Taiwan do not have an extradition agreement.
So the bill was proposed by Hong Kong government on February 2019. It will led to transfer the suspect to Taiwan so that he get punishment for his crime . But the same bill allow extradition to mainland China and from here people of Hong Kong started protesting against extradition bill.
Why, because China and Hong Kong have very complex political relationship and the extradition bill give more power to China over Hong Kong.
What is one country two system?
For this you have to understand Special Administrative Region (SAR)
See Hong Kong and Macau get some special privilege .
The are relatively autonomous but they are part of China.
Hong Kong full name is Hong Kong special Administrative Region of people's republic of China .
Macau full name is Macau special Administrative Region of people's republic of China .
These autonomy are:-
1. Own govt.
2. Legal system, police force.
3. Currency and custom
4. Immigration on policy.
5.sports team .
6 language ( English and Cantonese) but China main language is Mandarin
7. Postal system.
8. Education system.
There are some area in which China control Hong Kong and Macau these are:-
1. Military power.
2. No embassy.
3. The world and U.N. knows Hong Kong and Macau as part of China.
That's why it is one country two system.
Why is this so. For better understanding we have to look a little bit history.
Hong Kong - is under British colony since 1842 after loosing first opium war after which treaty of nanking where sign. Under which small part of land where given to British
Then there is 2 opium war under which more area given to British and finally in 1898 they sign. another treaty in which larger area of Hong Kong fall under hands of British . And Britain will keep this area for 99 years on lease and then give back to China .
Macau - is under Portuguese colonial rule since 16th century.
So in 1984 the British and Chinese govt. They sign a joint declaration and according to which some special privilege given to Hong Kong and Macau . There basic nature as capitalist economy would not be change and also currency and legal system and legislative system and people's Rights and freedom will be maintain for 50 years.
So why this treaty required?
Since Hong Kong is under 150 years of British rule have become a capitalist economy and their legal system is more familiar with Britain than Chinese. Their law and education are more similar to British than China. And China do not have any good record on human rights, people of China do not have as much as freedom as compare to other democratic government.
That's why people of Hong Kong want some assurances .
That's why this declaration where sign . But this rights where given for 50 years . So on 2047 Hong Kong will be fully owned by China.
So what will happen in 2047 no one knows .
But citizen there don't have such freedom. There legal system often arrests, punish or silence people who are against the state .
And China doesn't waiting for deal to expire . Under the rule of Chinese leader xi jingpin
Pro- democratic leaders have already been arrested in Hong Kong and mysterious abduction of book sellers have created a threat to freedom of speech.
But in 2003 people of Hong Kong successfully fought against legislation that would punished speaking out against China.
And in 2014 umbrella movement in which thousand of Hong Kongers protest against china influence against Hong Kong election .
